University Counseling Services at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invite applications for a Counselor. A counselor provides professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus community, incorporates a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional and behavioral needs of students, creates developmental programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping behaviors across campus, and provides strategic direction and advocacy for university mental health policy and initiatives. Position involves assessment/screening of needs, consultation, outreach, crisis management and professional counseling services (individual, couples and group).
This is a full time position working 10 months out of the year with a break during the summer months. This position involves work expectations outside of normal office hours (evening hours as we expand our services (e.g., one evening/week), with a schedule adjustment made to maintain an average of 40 hours/week onsite, occasional weekend commitments, travel out-of-town, etc.)
Required:
Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field.
Professional licensure in counseling or social work, or be eligible for licensure as a Professional Counselor or Social Worker in Wisconsin within 6 months.
Experience providing mental health counseling.
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel, or organizational matters.
Ability to work a varied schedule with flexible hours including some weekend and evenings.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
Minimum of 5 years mental health counseling experience is desired.
Familiar with electronic medical records.
Proficient in providing short-term, developmentally-focused psychotherapy.
