The University of Miami Counseling Center is hiring a full-time Licensed Therapist with a special emphasis in Crisis and Triage Services. The nature of the hire is dependent on licensure status and experience. The Licensed Therapist is a generalist who shares with other clinical staff responsibilities for carrying out the multi-faceted mission of the Counseling Center. In addition, candidates with strong clinical and outreach skills in the following areas are also encouraged to apply: triage and crisis management; suicide prevention; multicultural specialist; women of color, men of color; men’s issues;  sexual abuse and trauma; and international students.


The successful candidate will have outstanding skills in providing crisis and triage services, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across cultures and with clinical and non-clinical colleagues, campus departments and student groups; and the ability to provide outreach/consultation to campus constituents on a range of mental health issues. The Counseling Center is an APA accredited training site and moving towards becoming an IACS accredited institution, and the successful candidate will assist in those endeavors. Finally, the candidate will assist us in our ongoing effort to build a multiculturally competent staff capable of serving the needs of a diverse student body. The Counseling Center utilizes ProtoCall Services as part of its after-hours coverage system.


Specific duties and responsibilities as a Licensed Therapist may include, but are not limited to:


  1. Providing primary daily coverage to UMCC Walk-In/Triage Services.
  2. Serve as the first primary clinical contact for students.
  3. Conduct risk assessments with students.
  4. Initiate Voluntary and Involuntary hospitalization procedures.
  5. Manage caseload of crisis students.


  1. Liaison with case managers from Dean of Students Office and Housing and Residential Life.


  1. Providing clinical services that address the needs of the general student population as well as the needs of underserved populations
  2. Providing outreach services, on a semester basis, that address the needs of the general student population as well as the needs of underserved populations
  3. Participating in various Student Affairs/University activities and committees
  4. On-call rotation for after-hours related emergencies
  5. Some evenings and weekends required (clinical, outreach and student engagement)
  6. Other duties as assigned


Education Requirements:


  • Doctoral or Master’s degree in counseling/psychology/social work. Meeting all internship related requirements for their related degree. APA internship if having a Doctoral degree in counseling/clinical psychology. Must be licensed or license-eligible as a mental health professional in the State of Florida. Supervision for registered intern status is not provided.
