Florida State University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) strives to meet individual, student mental health concerns by continually working toward increasing accessibility of clinical services and providing innovative psychoeducational and preventative programming. The primary mission of CAPS is to address the psychological needs and personal concerns, which may interfere with students' academic progress, social development, and emotional well-being. CAPS activities, accomplishments and priorities reflect the mission as well as the University's goal of fostering student engagement, development, and success.
 
Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and functions as the chief mental health administrator for the University. Develops a vision for CAPS which encompasses the mental health needs of all students while identifying new developments in the field which impact University students and delivery of mental health services.
  • Oversees the delivery of individual and group counseling services, crisis management, wellness programming, outreach and consultation. Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships with all University departments and units. Oversees quality control measures and risk management procedures related to the delivery of clinical services, management of counseling records and maintenance of confidentiality.
  • Provides leadership in policy formulation. Oversees adherence to the law and rules of Federal, State, County, and City governments, Board of Governors and State agencies which govern the practice of psychology and mental health counseling. Oversees adherence to the standards of CAPS accrediting boards including the International Associate of Counseling Services (IACS), Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) and the America Psychological Association (APA).
  • Provides leadership and oversees the clinical system of satellite offices. Supervises embedded clinicians including those on the Panama City Campus, College of Law, and University Health Services; Is responsible for systematically creating partnerships and seeking future opportunities for embedded clinicians across campus.
  • Oversees the management of budgets and the development of annual reports. Oversees the recruiting, hiring, supervision and evaluation of licensed psychologists and mental health counselors, graduate level trainees, graduate assistants and support staff.
  • Serves as a safety and security officer for the University. Serves on the continuum of care groups for students of concern (i.e., Behavioral Intervention, Threat Assessment). Formulates, organizes and executes CAPS’ response to campus crises. Serves as the primary contact and liaison for faculty and staff regarding student mental health and crises

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate and five or more years experience in supervision of professional staff in college or university setting
  • Six or more years of professional experience in clinical and/or counseling setting post licensure
  • Florida Psychology License

Desired Qualifications

A minimum of six years of supervisory leadership experience in university counseling or psychological services, preferably within a large, complex academic institution with a broad scope of student services.
