Director of Counseling and Psychological Services

 

Oberlin College & Conservatory, a private liberal arts college and conservatory of music in Oberlin, Ohio invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its director of counseling and psychological services (CAPS). This is an in-person leadership role.

The director of CAPS at Oberlin is responsible for the administration of all counseling and psychological services. This position provides vision, leadership, and coordination of all counseling services for diverse multicultural campus constituencies; provides individual client and crisis/liaison services, including regular intervention with emergency and highly acute client situations; and provides a welcoming, student-centered, supportive atmosphere for students in need of personal support.

 

Oberlin’s CAPS director supervises a team of 10 and oversees a budget of approximately $1.5 million.

Qualifications

Education:

 

  • A master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology, counseling, or social work

 

  • Licensed or license-eligible in the relevant field within the state of Ohio.

 

* A doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology, counseling, or social work is strongly preferred.

 

Experience:

 

  • Minimum seven years of experience in counseling and psychological services, including three to five years in a supervisory or leadership role.

 

  • Substantial clinical experience providing direct services in a higher education or similar setting.

 

  • Strong knowledge of crisis management, emergency interventions, and behavioral health regulations.

 

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirements.

 

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

Skills:

 

  • Leadership, team management, strategic planning, fiscal management.

 

  • Expertise in health regulations, public health policy, crisis management.

 

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

 

  • Technology skills, including proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems, including Medicat and data analytics.
