Description

The Director of Counseling Services, alongside the Director of Health Services, provides vision and strategy for University Health and Counseling Department (UHCS), provides content expertise to the division and institution keeping student need and institutional mission at the forefront, coordinates administrative functions such as personnel and program management, develops departmental goals/objectives and budget.

The UHCS philosophy focuses on both prevention and intervention, and as a result, offers a wide array of direct care, educational outreach, wellness and holistic programs and services. Outreach and services are enhanced through participation in a nationally APA accredited doctoral internship, predoctoral practicum placements and master's internships.  All services and programs are in accordance with AAAHC standards. The Director of Counseling Services provides leadership and supervision for a team of clinical providers and support staff; serves on campus committees; participates with Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team, member of the Wellbeing unit; and promotes student success through delivery and promotion of quality healthcare, counseling and education.

This is a full-time, annual appointment; the Director of Counseling Services reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students working closely with the Director of Health Services and the wellbeing unit. The Counseling and Health directors provide mutual backup, ensuring continuous leadership and operational support for the department in each other's absence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A doctoral-level clinician with at least three years of experience.
  • A current license as a psychologist is required. Wisconsin licensure as an independent practitioner is required within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the supervision needs of multidisciplinary counseling center.
  • Leadership and supervisor responsibility.

  • Ability to provide supervision for doctoral interns in the APA Accredited doctoral internship program
  • Administrative and management skills
  • Teaching, consultation and facilitation skills
  • Experience analyzing student health trends and using data-driven decision-making
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets
  • Demonstrated collaborative relationship building

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide vision and support the development of University Health and Counseling Service¿s goals, objectives, the health services budget, policies and reports  
  • Provide administrative oversight of clinical services and care delivery, collaborating closely with the Director of Health Services to deliver wellness services that address student needs 
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Health Services, Wellbeing Unit, Student Affairs, and students to deliver services that address student needs, align with current trends, and support the institutional mission and student success framework. 
  • Serve as the liaison for counseling-related issues with campus administrators, service areas, directors at other institutions, and local, state and national agencies, including assisting with the JED initiative. 
  • Establish and maintain Quality Assurance and Risk Management programs, coordinating staff efforts to ensure activities align with accreditation requirements. 
  • Oversee policies and procedures for Counseling Services 
  • Collaborate with Health Services, Interpersonal Violence and Prevention Education, and Wellness Services on mental health promotion programming. Participate with outreach by coordinating and/or providing presentations and workshops. 
  • Supervise the Wellness Coordinator and Violence Prevention Coordinator 
  • Work with the Student Health Advisory Committee to assist the students in carrying out the functions of their group 
  • Maintain high level of skills by attending professional development and continuing education programs. 
  • Serve on university and professional committees 
  • Oversee personnel management (including recruitment, hiring, orientation, supervision and evaluation) 
  • Assist Counseling Services staff in establishing individual goals/objectives and staff protocols. Organize and facilitate Counseling Service staff meetings 
  • Coordinate staff utilization of the electronic medical record system (Point and Click)   
  • Analyze counseling services data and trends (including patient data, health outcomes, patient satisfaction, etc.) to make data informed decisions for the department and ensure that decisions meet professional, ethical and legal standards nationally and locally within Wisconsin 
  • Work with Student Affairs Leadership to meet the needs of students 
  • Coordinate Counseling collaboration with CARE Team and facilitate mandated assessment process 
  • Conduct outreach and consultation services to university students, staff and faculty.  
  • Provide direct clinical care to students, based on their qualifications, scope of practice, and availability. 

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary of $110,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.
