TITLE:  Associate Director of Counseling Services

 Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, managerial position, and days of work and hours are Monday through Friday,

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Note: This position is in the “NL” category of employment (non-fixed work week) and individuals in this role have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.  It is the policy of the College to grant hour for hour compensatory time off, with advance approval, only when employees are required to work on a regularly scheduled day off, Saturday, Sunday or a holiday.  Time earned must be used within one fiscal year from the time it is earned.

 JOB SUMMARY 

Working in the Center for Health and Counseling Services the Associate Director of Counseling Services reports to the Director of the Center for Health and Counseling Services and is responsible for the overall clinical management of the day-to-day operations of the unit, supervising the clinical staff and overseeing the graduate training program.  The Associate Director provides psychological services to Ramapo College students including individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention, psycho-educational programming, and consultation with faculty, staff and students. The Associate Director acts as the Director’s designee regarding administration, clinical services, crisis response, and consultation when the Director is absent or when designated by the Director to do so.

DUTIES  

  • Coordinates the Center’s clinical services including managing the triage, emergency coverage and drop-in hour schedules, staff caseloads, and psychiatric services.
  • Serves as the point person for all incoming clinical concerns and consultations with staff and faculty.
  • Provides supervision to, conducts performance evaluations, and makes reappointment recommendations for all clinical staff.
  • Serves as the point person for contracted tele-health company and manages any clinical issues.
  • Conducts clinical assessments and provides crisis intervention services.
  • Provides culturally responsive and affirming individual and group counseling, often with more difficult cases.
  • Conducts mandated assessments for students at risk for anger/threat assessment.
  • Consults with other campus units on mental health issues.
  • Provides training and educational outreach to student groups, faculty, and professional staff regarding mental health issues.
  • Participates in a rotation with the Director to provide consultation to the Center’s after-hours crisis response service (ProtoCall).
  • Coordinates the Center’s electronic database (Titanium).
  • Uploads monthly Titanium data reports to the Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH).
  • Coordinates and overseeing the Counseling Services’ website.
  • Responsible for updating and managing the Center’s policy and procedures manual and graduate training manual on an annual basis.
  • Assists the Director with assessing students who wish to return from an Involuntary Leave of Absence or Medical Leave of Absence and oversees coordinating the student’s care.
  • Assists the Director in establishing, implementing, and assessing short and long term unit goals.
  • Compiles statistics and utilization reports as necessary.
  • Coordinates the Graduate Training program which includes leading the selection and ranking process of trainees, communicating with prospective trainees; coordinating the new-trainee orientation; overseeing weekly didactic and clinical trainings; point person to trainees’ academic programs and general oversight of the program.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of training-related activities, such as trainee contracts, certificate of insurance.
  • Monitors all trainees’ progress and manages any problems that may need remediation.
  • Provides supervision to graduate students.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Vice President of Student Well-Being.
  • In the Director’s absence, will supervise all operations of Counseling Services (including ENHANCE, Substance Use Prevention and Recovery Program and Health Education).

REQUIREMENTS  

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum requirements:

  • Licensed Master level professional with degree in mental health, psychology, or social work (LCSW, LPC)
  • 4 years of post-licensure clinical experience, preferable in a college counseling center, which will include,
  • 1-3 years of experience providing clinical supervision to staff/employees

 

Preferred requirements:

  • NJ Licensed Psychologist with a Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
  • 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience, preferable in a college counseling center, which will include,
  • 1-3 years of experience providing clinical supervision to staff/employees

 

 

OTHER EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in counseling centers.
  • Previous experience in the leadership, and/or coordination of counseling center administrative functions (clinical and/or training service delivery) with experience in managing staff and teams.
  • Proficiency in working with back-end Titanium scheduling system, CCAPS, and CCMH data.
  • Ability to manage complex crises and/or clinical situations and to provide related supervision, training, and consultation with a commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion and prioritizes these values within the delivery and management of clinical services.
  • Strong program development and evaluation skills required for clinical utilization tracking, clinical services training, outcome assessment, quality assurance and utilization review; and reporting data out when needed in presentation or report form.
  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills

  • Experience in conducting brief psychotherapy.
  • Experience conducting performance evaluations.
